Don't use 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984 to clean label and sticker residue from your boombox or cassette doors.

I want to cry right now I'm so upset. :sadno:  :dunce:

Check out what it did to my Clairtone/Helix/Conion C100 cassette door:

Sorry Joe :-(. Always use a safe cleaner like goo gone which is oil based not petroleum based  this also includes all parts of your boombox and not just the glass ;-)

^ Floyd, I have used them too. I did a resto on a M71 tuner window and it turned out great, so I will have to wet sand and polish to see what I end up with.

I mentioned in another thread that 3M adhesive remover will take paint off a boombox because it is too harsh and melts some plastics..
Now we have proof!

Well, did a quick wet 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, and polish. It still needs more work, but this is better than what it was :(.

One of my favorite products for adhesive removal is Murphy's Oil Soap (Lestoil works too). Use it straight up with a soft cloth, working it lightly in small circles until the residue is gone. Then give it a quick rinse. Works great. And leaves a piney-fresh scent.

One or two more wet sand / buffing sessions and that deck window should look better than before the deed was done. :-)

I've actually used mineral spirits on acrylic windows & it worked well without fogging the plastic. You just need to polish it with novus or PlastX after to get that shine back.

Cheers & good luck bringing the window back to life. I know you can do it if you keep at it.

I use wd-40 to remove the goo from stickers it works great and never had any problems. The 3m headlight restorer will get the job done and fix this. It's a miracle worker.

I was pretty happy with where I got it already, just so I could stop thinking about it. I had to finish restoring my Helix C100 so I could list my Clairtone C100 on epay. I'll get back to it someday :D

It is written that main ingredient in WD-40 is kerosene.
I use kerosene (the paraffin lamp oil) lavishly to remove adhesives as well as to clean the whole boxes itself.
In my experience till date, it hasn't given any problem on acrylic, painted body or printed letters.
