Just picked up my first boombox in a long long time. Saw it at a pawn shop, looked the goods so I snapped it up for $99. Was this a good deal?

So amazed at the sound it produces. It's crazy that something 20+ years old still shits on most of the consumer crap that comes out today!

Has anyone got anymore information on this model? Silver ST888 Space Master II

Judging by the size of the tuning scale, I think it's safe to assume there is a band dedicated to interstellar communications.
But I'm no expert.
IMO, that's a great score at a very fair price.
BTW,
:hi:

Congratulations! Theres a third antenna up the back right corner too.

These have the best tuner of any radio I've had, by a looong way.

They're big too, like 931 size.

Well done Andrewjdorn!! Rock her loud and proud!!

Rock On.

Yeah I'm super stoked, I've been finding radio stations that are definitely from another galaxy! Been using the AUX through my laptop for all my editing non stop. It's epic. The space master and I are really bonding.

I'm from Melbourne, Australia. Found it at a pawn shop chain called Cash Converters. Pretty surprised as these places usually have shitty stuff at high prices.

PS you can peep all my videos at alldaypictures.com

Good to meet you all!

We have Cash Converters in the UK too, they get a bad press for giving out payday loans at several thousand percent APR which people cannot hope to clear but I've had my Sony Trinitron TV from them as well as a couple of laptops that Cash Converters had taken along with pretty much a warehouse full of other bankrupt stock.
One of these has been my daily use machine for a couple of years now and still gives me a good three hours of use on its battery, the other went on eBay where it made me the cost of the Diesel used to get to the shop and home again plus some beer money on top!

Agreed you need to watch out for the overpriced stuff but the nearest three branches to me always refuse stuff that's scratched, broken or on the Police's list of things that have been taken in burglaries and ramraids.

I've yet to find a boombox there though, however I might be unique in that I sold one to them! That was a late '80s Alba which used to slow down as its batteries started to fail on account of a chip fault, cheap design or both. I'd bought it from an ad in the local edition of Loot for £7, sold to Cash Converters for £10. They had it in their window at £19.95 for many months afterwards.

Depends sometimes, I found my GF-767 & a Marantz boombox in a cashies and they weren't expensive.
Not to long ago I saw a speaker/sub setup that retails for around $2300 or so, known Australian manufacture, they had it priced at $150 the lot (all working) the sub alone would go for at least double that. If I had the car I would have been all over it.

yeah luke mate and all those tuner bands are awesome for band scanning on short wave-its a great way to pass a bit of time listening to all the foreign station, and this particular set would definately qualify as a world band radio, albeit not for the purists due to its gargantuan size-but i love it :-D
