Boombox Creators Project

Rather than continue in the "Got My Book Today..." thread, I'm starting this one.

Not sure what the final manifestation of the Boombox Creators project will be, but the important thing is to start gathering the raw data (interviews, photographs, emphemera) while we still can.

To this end, I just set up an account in the Comindwork online collaboration tool to get The Boombox Creators project going. Rick, you expressed an interest in participating, PM me your email so I can invite you. Chris, you too, we can do the Lasonic part next month.

Anyone else want to participate? How? I'm not certain, but these are sure to come in handy:

• Japanese language fluency
• Residing in Japan
• Determining the development teams that created a given boombox
• Contacting and evangelizing project to manufacturers
• Writing interviews
• Conducting interviews
• Photography
• Videography
• Video editing
• Contacts at Turbosonic

I'm creating these as master tasks in the Comindwork project and will be adding sub-tasks as we go. Comindwork is like Basecamp but free.

Not sure how this is going to evolve but I'm excited to get it started!

I think this is an amazing idea. When you and I spoke to the grand son of the man who started Lasonic and he explained where the company came from, it just was amazing. That story CAN be told because the people are still alive and I think it should be told!

If there is anyway I can help, please let me know!

The language barrier is going to be the biggest hurdle. 90% of boomboxes were
designed and made in .jp, but thankfully their respect of their creations and national
pride means theres a lot less chance of the records and designs being thrown out.

If no one here knows japanese I have some friends who can help out who are over there.

I agree that the language barrier is a hurdle, but I have some friends that speak/write Japanese and I will press them into service for the cause.

Additionally, I've emailed Turbo Sonic and hope to hear back from them this week. Once a translator is located, I'm going to send both snail and email letters to the Big Boys requesting their assistance.

I'm not sure how at phrase this question...But I bought my TRC-920 at the Saugus Swap Meet in 1983. I bought it from an Asian lady. Was this the family running a booth at the swap meet when the company was getting started?

I just went through the tabs, there are some great questions there....

Here's an easy way for EVERYONE to participate.

I created the @BoomboxCreators Twitter account and started tweeting to various manufacturers about the project. If you have a Twitter account please follow and retweet; the more the merrier.

The Tweets are driving to the Facebook page; please Like it so the manufacturers will see the interest there too.

BTW, if you haven't added your questions to the creators yet please feel free to do so.
