Well, I finally have a shipping sob story..

There was a really lovely Silver model ST-777 on ebay I bought off this seller for 'make an offer' and I got it for $25. I figured I can replace the speaker grills and fix the door up as per the photos as I fell in love with the design of this radio. There was a delightful nod to the CFS-99 in the design and the pastel coloured slider functions were irresistible. Heres the link:

This was shipped by courier, not that that would've made a difference, and was totally inadequately packed. It was wrapped in one layer of bubble wrap in a box the same width and depth of the radio with some newspaper at the top and bottom. With the design of the handle all it would take was any pressure from the front or back to cause damage, and that's exactly what happened.

The handle housing was completely destroyed and this also caused a lot of internal damage, it doesn't even power up thanks to the power PCB's being broken and god only knows what else has been effected.I'm getting a decent refund from the seller, and they were very apologetic, but as a collector I would encourage potential buyers to avoid this seller. They have a tonne of boomboxes up on ebay, and ones like the RISING and Trident have tempted me often, but with this appalling packing I would never risk buying off them again. I've told them this, but I have no idea if it will make a difference to how they operate.

It's a real shame... I believe this Silver is reasonably rare, and to have another one lost disheartens me immensely..

Rock On.

I totally agree. When something like this happens to me it feels horrible. Not because I've lost money, or because I then must co tact the seller and demand some type of justice be served, but that something which had retired into obsolescence and been saved or salvaged and brought to the surface again is now destroyed, and all because we paid attention to it and the person who sent it did t care enough about what they were selling.
It's so sad and I'm sorry this happened to you Rick, that radio sat for a long time and you were the kind surrogate to notice it amongst the others and take it on as your own. You were the perfect candidate too as you are so good at noticing colour ways and design accents like that. You deserve a mint boxed one!

Yes, my Toshiba RT-S931 from this seller was packed exactly the same. Loose in a box with a single layer of bubble wrap. Mine was lucky enough to survive the journey. I let him know that the packing wasn't up to scratch but sadly it made no difference.

What is it with sellers and loose packing or lack of packing? For some eBay sellers it seems as if these things are just junk they make a lucky buck off of and who cares what happens to the buyer.
Even then they usually have to refund part if not all of the purchase price. :dunce: It's lose - lose

Sorry to hear that another member has had the misfortune of buying a boombox from Itemz12. :-/

I bought a Hitachi from this guy and received a boombox in very poor condition with punched in speaker grills etc:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17654

He doesn't use proper boxes. He just applies 1 single layer of small bubble wrap, then grabs some flat, thin cardboard and 'wraps' the item with the cardboard and ships it off. He hopes by putting 'FRAGILE' stickers all over it, the couriers won't throw it around - guess what?

I also told him of the shipping issues. He promised to improve his shipping techniques in future!!! He hasn't changed a thing all these months later. :annoyed:

I must admit, almost every one of his boxes are in poor condition and are either 2nd or 3nd shelf models. He really has nothing that appeals to me. The problem is, his multiple listings really clog up any Ebay search and make it difficult to find the good stuff. :-/

James.... :-)
