Hey guys, my tosh s90 is working beautifully with the exception of the tape deck.

I finally got around to rebelting it today (it has never worked while I've had it) and the change seemed to go smoothly, put in a tape ff, rew and play etc all good EXCEPT there isn't sound. It's not a speaker issue coz everything else is fine, all i get is white noise when I play a cassette. :hmmm:

Any ideas?

Well since you haven't used the tape deck, try this. There is a switch that is activated by the record button. It's a long looking switch on the PC BOARD, and it is activated by a lever that is attached to the record button. When you locate this switch spray it with Diox-it or any good contact cleaner and move it back and forth with your finger. I had a Lasonic 931 that had the same problem that you just described and cleaning and moving that switch fixed it. Good Luck!!

No joy :-/

Couldn't find the switch you were talking about, the insides must be different......

Yeah doubt it's the record switch Alfie. Check all head connections. Also check micro switches on deck and clean function switch good. Try these first ;-)

The RT-S90 in fact does not have a record switch.

I remember similar issues being reported by member docs with his S90 so maybe you should ask him. :hmmm: Even though I believe he never was able to fix it either...
I yet have to get my S90 deck fixed but I believe it will work without any problems because there is the usual tape beckground noise when you turn it up and all controls respong but the head is stuck in up position atm.

Good luck with that. As I have found, the motor may run but that doesn't mean the deck will work with new belts. :sadno:

I have one S90 which rattles more than a baby's toy when picked up. Yet to open that can of disappointing worms. But I post this in the offer of the cassette deck *should* you try everything and have no luck. :angelic:

Haven't had a chance to get back at it yet but I'm wondering if the problem has anything to with the deck at all.
The white noise begins as soon as the function switch is switched to tape (even before any buttons are engaged on the deck). I have cleaned the function switch but is it possible that it just needs a more thorough clean?????
