Many home cassette decks from the '70s and '80s had timer switches for use with
an external timer. It relies on either an external timer or an internal clock- to tell it when to start and stop-

The reason i ask is the cassette deck and turntable have stopped responding.I can't even eject the tape in there.Could this be due to the timer start being triggered and is in some kind of sleep mode?

Does the radio work? Any power to the unit? If no power probably a fuse..If power then different issue like bad belts on both turntable and deck..the timer switch on the DC 7 I believe is only for the deck section and may have been used as a sleep function, you would put a cassette in press play with the power off and listen to the radio and when the tape stopped the unit would shut down. The timer should not trigger on its own.
