Just a simple question - does this model have any type of stereo line-in connector? (not mono microphone-in, I don't need that)

I'd like to buy it, but i can't read it from the pic in the add, and the owner is clueless.

Thanks in advance.

There is a lot of pics of that model on Google image search. Here is the one in different color scheme.

The DIN connector on the pack reads "AMP"... I doubt that it has just a line out on it, can't be sure.

I'm unsure too. It seams like DIN out to Amplifier, and it looks like there are one or two stereo connectors on the right, but I can't read what it written underneath. I mean, it would be strange for it not to have any kind of line-in, right?

Found better pic on net finally, the other connector is EXT MIC. :'-(

It sounds unbelievable that it has out to amplifier, out to headphones, internal mic, in for external mic but no line in :hmmm:

It's a 5-DIN . There's a diagram showing pins 1 and 4 as audio out, pins 5 and 3 as audio in. Maybe the connection is two-way :hmmm:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DIN_connector

Indeed. My thoughts exactly, but manufacturers frequently build in 5 pin DIN connector just for the sake of wider compatibility with 5 pin DIN cable. That way they can't miss. I've seen it too many times - 5 pins and only 3 used. User manual or schematics would solve the problem, but I couldn't find any.

If you're just wanting a line-in to play music from a mp3 player or phone buy a FM transmitter. Check my thread from here then scroll down a bit. :-D

That never crossed my mind, thanks!

Schematics are here,

Some models have line in, as you can see in the schematic, some do not.
I am not sure if the mic in would work as I think it only goes to tape.
But the DIN socket however has all the pins connected.

Here is how to install a true line in on a GF-5757 and GF-600.

You need to use a 5 pin stereo 3,5 mm minijack (normalized/Switching) Whatever you call.
Ebay is your friend.

Maybe this works on other GF models as well.

This taps into the radio line and when the jack is inserted it switches the radio line off and uses the jack instead.

It's not the best idea to use tape line because you would need to press the play or record button, this is because the amplfier IC is turned off when the radio is not on "play mode"

No caps and no extra resistors needed.

You do need to connect the GND from the minijack to somewhere on the PCB where there is a real GND ref.

GL :)

Thanks for this. I'm going to give it a go tonight.

A few additional resources here that people may find useful.

Firstly, the full service manual http://elektrotanya.com/sharp_gf-5757h_gf-5757e.pdf/download.html

Second, if you live in the UK then Maplins sell the minijack suggested - http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/35mm-pcb-mounted-stereo-socket-fk20w

And lastly, this is a zoomed in image showing the points where, I believe, you should be tapping into. I'm going to unsolder resistors R47 and R48, solder wires back onto the board and then bring this out to the miniojack.

I'll post pictures when i'm done (if it works :-) ).

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I've just bought a GF5757 with the intention of installing a line in so I'd be really interested to see how your upgrade went Disgraceland! I hope it worked as planned...

Cheers
