Middle TN
It seems the most centralized place would be Kansas. But then you have to deal with flying monkeys and henchmen trying to follow you home. :nonono:

Seriously though....if anyone would be interested in meeting in TN, there is a community building not far from our place that I'd be willing to spot the bill for. It's right next to a park with a playground if you want to bring the lil boomers. We could also rent the covered pavillion next door It's in Smyrna, right smack in the middle of TN and within 5 miles of lots of shopping and restaraunts. Plus there are I think 5 hotels in the same vicinity.

Here are the deets on the park where it could be:

I will also offer my place as a more centralized meeting point. I have a very large open walkout basement to beach, a bar, an in ground pool and access to lake from our beach. There are hotels near by off I55 as well. Just an idea :-). Otherwise I would suggest that members can also drive in together to save on fuel costs where ever meet is held

Frank your so right  but wouldn't it be awesome to try and centralize a meet that will be so huge, so crazy and maybe have TV coverage :w00t: that would be awesome :-)

The bigger the meet, the bigger the space you will need and the more you move out of the "I can get this space for free" domain and move into the "attendance to this event will cost each member $$$$" arena. Also, there's the aspect of transporting boomboxes to consider. You can only take one or two with you on a plane, and that is sometimes cheaper than driving, depending on how far away you are. Gas prices and travel time make it somewhat prohibitive by car, which is what you really need to bring a fair amount of boxes to make the meet really interesting.

And let's not even talk about if there is a hotel stay involved...

Not to be a downer, but I don't think what you are describing (big national convention type event with media coverage) will ever happen with this crowd in this country. The USA is simply too much of a geographic challenge. Small to mid-size regional meets at free locations are pretty much the only way you'll get a crowd together here... And generally speaking, we are a bunch of cheap bastards who'd rather add a grail to our collection than spend several hundred or even a thousand $$$ to go to a convention.

I think someone should just pick a date for Sorrento and if you can make it, great... and if not, there is always next year. ;-)

For me the small local meets work out really well.
I am willing to drive up to three hours away with a trunk full of boomboxes to spend a day chillin
with fellow collectors.
Most of the other collectors in the Florida area are usually willing to do the same.
So what you end up with is around 6 to 10 members in attendance and at least 70+ boomboxes to enjoy
for the day.
I would love to enjoy a big convention style Meet but I will have to agree with Jaytee on all points made.
With that said, I would open my house up again and Im sure others would consider doing the same.
Thats the easy part.
Now for the hard part,
Nailing down the date and getting commitments from members to attend.

Oh By the way, Im totally in for the 2013 Sunshine Mix, It should be a blast (as Usual)
