i ordered new belts for the 9475 and I am trying to replace the main big belt. however, since the original belt had already broken and fallen off of the mechanism, I have no record or idea how exactly this belt loops around the wheels. I bought a 6 page service manual pdf but it has no images as to how to loop the main belt around the wheels. I am hoping that perhaps someone could take a look at the picture I have attached and maybe explain or draw on the attached picture as to how I loop the big belt; its the one that is loose in the photo. Or even if someone has a larger manual or an image diagram scan of the beltlayout.
Thanks!

From the looks of things, it appears that you are close. Try the setup as illustrated in the image below. The blue line is the larger, main belt. The purple line in the smaller belt.

First, place the main belt on first. It will go onto the motor capstan (there should be a spot for it closer to the bottom of the capstan), then under the top plastic wheel. Here, you want to check and see if there is a second groove under the large, top plastic wheel. If so, the main belt will go into the bottom-most groove as noted by the blue dashes. Then, into the groove of the middle plastic wheel, and then into the groove of the metal flywheel.

Second, place the smaller belt like it is already. If you think of it as layers, the smaller belt would be the top layer and the larger belt would be the bottom layer.

Fatdog,
Thank you so much for the drawing and the detailed instructions!!! You rock! I just followed your instructions for the large belt and there is still some slack on the belt. Perhaps I purchased the wrong belt size?. It is a 'square belt, 9.6 inch'
Again, many thanks.

The JVC 9475 requires three belts:

SCX3.5
SCX9.5
SCY6.0

A 9.6 belt will be looser, but not so loose that it doesn't grab at all. Is there a clear path for the main belt to go around the other plastic spindle near the blue capacitor? That looks like the drive spindle for the tape counter.

Hey again Fatdog.
Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I have still not figured out how to get the 9.6 belt fit right in the mechanism. I know I am missing something simple here. There does not appear to be a clear path for the main belt to go around the other plastic spindle which is for the tape counter. I took some better photos of the mechanism with a better camera from different angles. Perhaps you see something that I haven't noticed. Thanks again for all of your help.

If you got the belt size off of Russell industries belt size PDF You may need to order smaller sizes. The info on that file isn't always 100% correct. I have found many units where the size belts are different from what they really are... Good luck
