Since a few days I'm the proud owner of a Crown SZ5100-SL, and I have been playing it almost all day every day since I got it

I got it from eBay and I knew it would have some problems, and after a few days this is the list of whats wrong with it:

• Eject button won't open deck B.
• Right antennae won't stand up, due to a wrong size screw.
• When volume is on 0 during playback, I hear popping noises.
• When I connect heaphones and I “twist/turn” the cable, it will distort.
• It won't record anything. I've tried to record from line-in and radio, neither can I record from deck A.
• When I play a tape in deck A, I can't rewind/forward deck B.

I opened her up to check the inside, and I'm not sure on how to clean it thoroughly. When I closed it up again, I had problems with Fast Forward, and the record button won't stay down...

The cones used to be white, so it would be cool to fix that, too.

The problem is, I'm not sure where to start, I guess I'll order a service manual.

Because I couldn't record any tapes at the moment, I bought the cheapest tapedeck I could find in a 5km radius. It's connected to my PC with a DAC and it works great :stereo:

And a wallpaper in hi-res (click it) :-P

Took a little while, but I cleaned some of the interior now.

I also found out there is a spring loose, of the lower tapedeck. Maybe someone can point me out where I should connect it ?

Hello.
You have the missing piece that opens and closes the door of the cassette.
Look at the picture in the red circle.

The good news is, that this is a standard cassette mechanics, which can be taken from another cheap boombox.

Тhe next picture shows where the spring is attached:

When you press the record button, the plates A and B must be move up and switch a big switch on mainboard.
If that is work, you must be recording...

For more info about your problems, waiting answers from another members...
Good luck with restoration...
