Well, I've been looking for the longest time for a mint Technics 1200 MK2 in silver.
Finally someone emailed me last week and said they just got one for sale.
The story goes, the guy who sold it to me works for a local electronics store.
He got the turntable from a local Church, which they didnt need any longer.
The table hasnt been hardly used - I guess they only used it for special occasions or on any given Sunday.. LoL.
Anyways, from the serial number, it looks to be made in 1986.
Like I said this thing is near mint ! I would rank it a 9/10. It has some very minot scratches on the dust cover probably from wiping dust off of it. The table has no nicks anywhere !
It came with an old skool Stanton 500 MKII cartridge.

Anyways, on to some pics. ;-)

Nice table, most are not this clean.

If you want to upgrade, get a new arm board and put a Rega RB-301 arm on it and/or a new phono pre. The cart is the old 45rpm standard, change that to a Denon or Ortofon 2M (within budget) and you would have a killer table, avoid Grado carts on DD tables.

Some Novus on the lid would fix any marks and bring it back to new.

Before you spend the $$ on the Nagaoka you would need a better preamp, don't discount this part of the chain.

Between the other two I would tend to lean towards the Shure, the AT can be a bit bright if no loaded properly (capacitance), even with these two carts i would suggest a new pre amp. The choice comes down to what sort of sound you prefer, bright or more neutral laid back.

Well I was having a bloody intermittent popping noise. I just finished listening to an entire album and theres no more popping noise. I readjusted/tightened the ground, cleaned the cartridge stylus and moved the wires on the cartridge around as well. I think they were a bit loose.

Old skool Heart now sounds as it should, even on an ancient crappy Stanton 500 MKII cart !

:D

:agree:

The beauty about the SL1210 is that as a high quality 'audiophile' turntable, the secret is out; the price for these 'tables on ebay only a few years back was quite cheap. There are other forums dedicated to supercharging the 1210 by changing the arm, removing the power supply and buying a separate unit, or even swapping out the bearing as it is said, contribute to raising its performance no end.

A 1210 in that condition in UK would probably fetch £400 on ebay.

Absolutely gorgeous

Thanks. I will be getting a new cartridge next week for sure. This Stanton sucks, sound quality wise and doesnt track very well !

Some new pics with the Stanton D50e elliptical stylus on.
I have around 50 hours play on it, so its broken in.
The detail on this with Brubeck's Time out is bliss !
