Heyya all,

I've been tinkering with my GF-777Z to get better beats from my rock-box. I ordered 2 sets of speakers to try out. 1 set was a pair of 6.5" car audio sub-woofers with a free-air resonance(FS) of 38Hz. :w00t: The 2nd set was a kit for a center channel speaker that comprised of 2 4-ohm ESS mid-woofers with an FS of 63Hz.

After listening to my system with these four woofers, I noticed the mid-bass is too robust & efficient with the ESS center channel woofers so I switched them out & rpeplaced them with the subs that I had installed in the 'SuperWoofer' system. Without running any center 'Superwoofers' & using the subs as the woofer of the 2-way outer speakers, it sounded great with all types of music. The SUB has a range of about 45-2500 hz & sounds pretty balanced with the horn tweeter. The bass is rich & deep while the mid/high tones are clear & dtailed. Once I get 2 more subs in the 'SuperWoofer' spots & I have all 4 SUBS bouncin' it'll kick like a mule & eat reggae-dub for a snack. The link to the eBay ITEM for these woofers is below:

It'll take about 2 weeks for the woofers to get here, but once they do, I'll post a video for you bass-heads. :breakdance:

Well, after trying different combinations of woofers the best sounding combination is as follows:

The outer woofers are part of a center channel kit which have 2 @ 6.5" woofers,
The frequency response is qutie good & flat up to 4Khz & the free-air resonant freq. or FS point is 63Hz. Perfect for upper bass punchy-ness & can be found here:

The black sub-woofers I used for the 'Super-woofer'(s) have a optimal sealed inclosure of just 0.16 cu. feet & a resonant freq. or FS point @ 38Hz Perfect for the bootom octaves so many boom-boxes lack. They can be purchased here:

Both sets of woofers are 4-ohm each so you can match impedances between old & new drivers & the unit still functions well.

If you update your GF, I STRONGLY suggest using this combination of woofers to get a more flat BASS response down to 35Hz. The outside woofers are from a center channel kit & have a stiffer cone allowing it to give lots of punchy tight bass & remain flat up to about 4KHz. They do a great job of blending in between the sub drivers & the horn tweeters.

So are these subs better than the Bose you suggested? 6-1/2" Subwoofer 6.5" Sub Woofer 80W RMS / 160W Max 4 ohms BIG BASS small space!
I actually like the sound of the BOSE woofers & are the 2nd revision of my 777Z. The BOSE have more UMPH! & sound is warmer & punchier overall. The original set had more sub-woofer like sound but not as strong or musical to my ears as the BOSE woofers. Don't get me wrong. The original sub-woofers sounded great too but not as strong in volume or midbass....

I had some infinity tweeters I used for that upgrade. The M70's are a good choice too...just make sure that when you mount them to the plastic housings that you use washers as shims so that the dome of the tweeter is not touching the plastic ring inside the housing.....
