Hi everyone, so I have been searching literally everywhere for a while for answers I just cant seem to find a fix. Do any of you guys have any ideas or similar issues? The boombox is an original C-100f( Japan make) and its only issue right now is that the bottom tape deck is stuck in play thus preventing the system from turning off. It just occured randomly one day. It is really annoying. Any ideas you guys? Thanks for all your help.

Is there a tape in there?
My c100f was consistently on and it was because the belts had snapped and needed replaced.
If the spindles ain't spinning I'd say it's the belts......

So you had a similar problem if not the same? Did yours look like mine in the pic? Was it hard to fix? Thanks for your help BTW. I really appreciate. I really am alone when it comes to this stuff over here. I've been working on audio equipment but I doubt that means much since I am still a teen. No one over here can fix the god damn problem yet it was so obvious  Tape is still not my area of expertise.

Only way to fix problem is to take apart to replace belts. If your not using deck then you can manual turn capstan wheel in right direction until deck goes into stop mode. This will fix power problem. But if you accidentally press one of buttons again it will happen all over!!!!!

Are belts still on wheel? If not then this won't work. Only other way would be to replace belts. You can change belts without taking frame out but for someone new it will be difficult. You may want to take it to a technician or find member close by to help. You have to remove pc board on deck to get plate off in order to get to belts.

I have 4 Conions. 3 of them were stuck in play/record when I got them.

Here is how to get them in neutral position:

1. Press stop on the tape deck so the play key is not engaged anymore.
2. Take the back off.
3. Find the BIG flywheel of the tape and turn it. Even with no belts left on the deck, that should do the job.

You have to make sure to turn in the right direction! If you are looking at it from the back the direction to turn it is clockwise! If you turn it the wrong way, it might cause some damage if you are using too much force.
It is a little hard to reach the flywheel without taking the inner chassis of a Conion out. For having a temporary solution to not have it turned on all the time, it is the easiest to just carefully bend your fingers and turn the wheel mm by mm.
If you plan on replacing the belts anyways, you might as well take out the whole chassis. Be careful not to break off the head of the deck though if you remove the chassis while it is still engaged!
The deck of a C100 is relatively easy to work on, just take your time and be careful.

Hope this helps.

Definitely. Will for sure take my time. The blaster was first my dad's during the 80's. He passed it down to me since I am so fond of audio equipment. He was going to throw it away at one but thank god he didn't and he let me restore it.

Taking out whole frame is more difficult then it looks especially to someone with no experience. One of the problems is the wires, if you plug the wires back in wrong you can have a heap of trouble. The other problem is putting frame back in. The heads get in the way and it makes it very difficult. I found it to be easier to carefully move deck pc board out of way. You have to remove most of wires and maybe desolder motor. Then remove plate and rebelt with frame still in front of box. But now if your rebelting top deck then frame must come out!!!

Its not that I have no experiene whatsoever with opening stuff like this up, I just havent really opened up a C100 before with intent of of repair. I have opened it up before just to clean it a bit and clean the connections. I only need the rebels the bottom deck thankfully.

It's not the opening of box I'm speaking of... Taking frame out of Conion may seem simple because of simple wired plugs but if look at the wired plugs many are same amount wires and same color for wires. Trust me it makes it very difficult when putting back together and you may question yourself while doing this. Good luck :-)

Just number your plugs with bits of masking tape before you detach them - also take photos that show the placement of the wires and where the go to and from. Hope your Conion fixes up a treat!
