What difference does it make now if you gave it back? (could of, would of, should of, is a losing game and it will drive you insane) Ask me how I know!
You should have a least looked it over carefully to determine the root cause of the issues
Basics:
Clean head(s)
Clean controls
Check belts (commonly bad and cause of multiple problems)
Possibly, and I say POSSIBLY you might have had a bad cap, but all of the above are easy fixes with a little patience
The "PX" series AIWAs are some of the best they made, after the SONY acquisition I believe (don't quote me on that one)
But yeah, if you got it at yard sale pricing you should have kept it, working or not.
I definitely would have. Stuff that works 100% right out of the gate from yard sales is just a bonus icing on the cake for me if the piece and the price are good. I NEVER expect it (again, at yard sale prices)
All I'm looking (and hoping for) for is good cosmetics and that the unit is complete.
AIWA portables are hard to beat, they were the company's main revenue stream. I'm working on restoring one right now. If that sort of machine was something you are really interested in owning you can hardly go wrong with an AIWA
