Here we go again! :dunce: I shouldn't have to do this with EVERY M71 that gets into my hands. . I'm glad I ended up with it because I know I will bring it back from the dead. Here is the story where this one came from: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14928&hilit=sleeping

Damaged from shipping and my god this thing had paint dumped all over it then they cleaned it off with a SCREWDRIVER! :nonono: . Most of the chrome/gold trims are tarnished, pitted, and turning green. Tuner knob was smashed through the side of the case :dunce: .

It does play cassettes, radio, and line in with no issues suprisingly. Everything is there and works and only missing one antenna.

In your last restoration you did not paint over the top letters.
You instead covered them, but this is not necessary anymore as I have seen a thread where a memeber made a perfect template for the letters and uploaded the image.
Sorry the thread is on my laptop at home and I do not have the link but maybe someone here knows.
Also I forget which website as it could also be over at stereo2go so I'm not shure.
I bet you get this box better than ever :)

Thank you ;-) .

The last M71 resto I did the re-paint was a little too brown and wasn't as vibrant as the original finish. It looked ok but I'm trying something different on this one.

I just got back from the auto body store with the boombox case. I had them put their color meter machine on the boombox case and it comes out and tells you the custom mix for that color or matches it within a certain % to an existing OEM color code...... The result came back as a paint code for PORSCHE! hahaha

They are making the paint can for me right now and I will pick it up later and test the mix compared to the original. It should be damn close but have a little more metallic flake than the original finish.

Progress post!

100% stripped. Tuner knob shaft was snapped so I repaired that. The chassis where the tuner knob attaches was cracked clean through, I fixed that. The chunk and cracks in the case where the tuner knob was pushed through is all repaired! The missing piece was in the boombox and everything line up great!

I sprayed a sample of my PORSCHE gold paint and I think it will be lovely.

Tomorrow maybe scuff, clean, mask, and primer will be layed. Oh I can't wait!

Man I would just part that out, you may make more :hmmm:
Part it out?!1 no freaking way man! It is fully working and only missing one antenna. I didn't buy it to flip or part out, I want a M71 for my collection.

Fatdog, yeah this is the 75$ one from ebay. The seller refunded the purchase price and the shipping so this baby was FREE!

The PORSCHE paint code is M1U "LINEN GRAY - EFFECT" goes all the way back to 1983! They put it on the 944's! Keeping it vintage even with the paint!

Good point on those other boombox models, this could be a dead on match for those too. I will paint some color chips that I can mail out to people that want to check compared to their boomers that need paint  .

Wow....that box had a hard life. 30 years of an owner that just didn't give a #$%^& :sadno:

I can't wait to see this radio finished....

One thing for sure....you took on one heck of a project!
