So I have a JVC RC-M71JW here that cassette will only play FF and RW for a couple seconds before it autostops. I tried ajusting the spring screw on the flywheel pressure and that doesn't seem to make a difference. Big flat belt is on.

Is this just a belt issue or ???? Belt tension? Flywheel tension? Not sure where to look next :hmmm: .

If you have any ideas, I'm open to anything  . Thanks guys!

hi BLU_FUZ,

I've experienced this with my M90 and it turned out to be the belts. I believe it trips the auto stop feature when the take-up or drive spool stops rotating.

Like in most of the boomboxes, the tape counter belt turns a magnet and when that stops, will activate the auto stop mechanism. This belt is connected to either one the one of those hubs. Check that square belt also. I'm pretty sure it is that belt.

Joe how is tension on the flat belt  is it an old belt, if so that's where to start  You can also try without tape and see if without the torque of tape if goes ;-)

Joe I also believe there is a tire that runs on the capstain wheel that may cause problems. Cleaning both the tire and the wheel of capstain will surely help for good traction... Using rubbing alcohol

Cleaned all the rubber tires/wheels and installed a medium flat belt 9.6" and it's all working. The medium size is a little wide, so next time I will get the small flat belt 9.6" .

Thanks for the tips

M70 belts are:
small flat belt 9.6 (main belt)
square belt small 7.0 (counter belt)

Got them from Studio Sound Electronics online:
$2.15 for the flat belt
$1.85 for the square belt
