Hi,I have a Sharp GF-9191 that has a strange tuner issue!
The am,sw1,and sw2 work fine from end to end of scale but on fm
It only works from around 92-to about 100 MHz.
It is like dead, won't pick up anything past 100 or below 92
It has some trouble capturing stereo but if you move the tuner
around enough it will pick up stereo. :hmmm:
Is there something that cleaning might help or does anyone have
any idea what could be the cause of this?
This really cranks when tuned In,it was very dirty when I got it a while
ago.
I'd appreciate any help on this.
Thanks and have a super New Years weekend. :-)

jeff try turning some of those screw pots on the tuner board with the power on and tuned into a station ,then start turning some of those screws about 1/4 turn each way returning it to the original position after each turn ,you will know when you have the right ones because you will hear it fine tuning the station .

these sometimes become dirty and reception fades out over time ,as long as you note the original position of the screws on the pots you should have no problems .

Hi Floyd! Thanks for that!
I'll do that.
Btw-it's been getting better I sprayed a little
de-oxit I'n the fm switch and worked it and
have been using it more and more later fm
stations are coming I'n now plus all the low stations
come In.
I'll let you know how it goes after i try that.
This was such a beater but is now coming
along nicely by a severe cleaning and some
tinkering and what not.
Love how loud and powerful the 9191 is when
you get them going good!! :-)
Thanks & Have a great one! :-)

I Reli,thanks for that.
I was turning the the correct ones.
My stereo light and stations are all fine except al liitle hard to get
102-106 or 107.
It's way better than before!!
The little screws that are right under the FM tuner switch helped
get the tuner I'n better.
I have a 2nd. One of these and it's super-all stations clear and loud.
But I have the symptom of having a bad right channel-same
as the other guy on s2go's thread you posted.
In a earlier post Norm thought & I agreed that I have a bad amp chip
for the right channel.
I need to test and find out for sure.
It's still crazy loud and sounds great!
Thanks for the help guys!

There was someone else who found a bad trace on the circuit board responsible for stereo vs stereo wide

I don't think these radios were built to the same standards as Panasonics or JVCs

sometimes not enough voltage to the radio board also ,,it good to check that also but without the schematic it hard to know of hand what the voltage is suppose to be :hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm:

The tuner is now working 100%!!!
I guess it took a while for the de-oxit to work it's way I'n the tuner
switches and after the adjustments & fine-tuning I did.
I'm very happy that it now all works! Except it just needs new belts
to make the tape deck work.
I really need a battery door and 1 antenna and it will be really nice.
Have a good one-Jeff. :-)

Now my beater 9191 is still having the symptoms sometimes! :annoyed:

I'll get a new left antenna & do some more
cleaning up inside but this radio is funny! :hmmm:

For a while I was getting all stations of fm.
Then it went back to where 99-108 is all but dead.

88-99 is all good with stereo capture working well!
Oh well, I'll keep on trying on this. :hmmm: :-)
