I AM GOING TO DE-MYSTIFY MOTOR REPLACEMENT RIGHT HERE AND NOW! THERE ARE THREE BASIC DESIGNS FOUND IN SINGLE MOTOR BOOMBOX TAPE DECK TRANSPORTS. TYPE ONE USES A RATHER LARGE MOTOR WITH NO HOLE FOR SCREWDRIVER ADJUSTMENT OF SPEED. THIS EARLY TYPE HAS AN INTERNAL GOVERNOR, NOT A SOLID STATE REGULATOR , USES MORE POWER AND WOULD GENERATE ALOT OF ELECTRICAL NOISE IF NOT FOR THE HEAVY SHIELDING EMPLOYED. SHARP GF-9191 USES THIS TYPE. THE SECOND TYPE IS A BASIC DC BRUSH MOTOR WITH A SOLID STATE SPEED REGULATOR THAT IS SEPERATE FROM THE MOTOR.THE THIRD TYPE IS THE MOTOR WITH BUILT IN SOLID STATE SPEED REGULATOR WITH THE SMALL HOLE TO ADJUST SPEED. THE FIRST TYPE CAN BE REPLACED WITH THE BUILT IN REGULATOR TYPE. 8 AND 10 CELL BOOMBOXES CAN USE THE EG-500AD2B MOTOR. AS LONG AS THE HOLES LINE UP, AND SHAFT LENGTH IS CORRECT. THIS MOTOR CAN ALSO BE USED IN BOXES WITH EXTERNAL REGULATORS. YOU CAN DO THIS BY WIRING THE NEW MOTOR TO THE SUPPLY THAT FEEDS THE ORIGINAL OUTBOARD REGULATOR AND THEN ADJUSTING SPEED USING THE NEW MOTOR,S ADJ CONTROL. THE EG500AD2B MOTOR IS DESIGNED TO ROTATE COUNTER CLOCKWISE AND IS SUITED TO 8 AND 10 CELL BOXES. MOTOR DIRECTION IS OBSERVED WITH THE SHAFT OF MOTOR FACING YOU. DONT LAUGH!! CAUSE THIS IS IMPORTANT! RUN THE MOTOR AND OBSERVE...... SOME MODELS USE A MOTOR THAT RUNS CLOCKWISE. DON,T PANIC.... THE EG500AD2B CAN BE WITH A FEW CHANGES MADE TO RUN IN CLOCKWISE DIRECTION. NO YOU CAN NOT JUST REVERSE THE POWER LEADS... READ CAREFULLY!!!! USING NEEDLENOSE PLIERS PULL OFF THE BACK COVER OF EG500AD2B MOTOR.DO NOT PRY AGAINST CONNECTOR!!! REMOVE FOAM INSULATOR AND SLIDE MOTOR OUT OF HOUSING. SEE THE MOTOR WITH ITS LITTLE REGULATOR PC BOARD SOLDERED TO IT? OF COURSE! NOW YOU MUST UN SOLDER THE TWO PADS THAT HOLD REG BOARD TO MOTOR , REMOVE REG BOARD AND RE- INSTALL IT REVERSED. YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THE MOTOR PINS NOW ALIGN WITH THE PREVIOUSLY UN USED HOLES. NOTICE THE GROUND WIRE TO THE CASE? YOU WILL HAVE TO RE LOCATE IT BUT IF YOU HAVE GONE THIS FAR,YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING. SEE HOW THE RESISTOR IS HITTING THE PLASTIC AND KEEPING THE REG BOARD FROM RESTING FLUSH? CLIP OR MELT AWAY ENOUGH PLASTIC TO ALLOW RESISTOR TO CLEAR, SOLDER THE REG TO MOTOR RE INSTALL GROUND SLIDE MOTOR BACK IN ITS SHELL DO NOT FORGET THE FOAM INSULATOR! SNAP THE COVER IN PLACE AND YOU HAVE A CW RUNNING REGULATED MOTOR FOR YOUR SHARP GF-9191 AND MANY OTHERS.
