Toledo, OH!
Finally cracked this thing open to see what the motor voltage and model #.
Any one know where I could get a replacement? Local repair tech said they no longer stock this particular motor and that was the end of story. The ass-hole was not much help.
Does any one know if it's a clock wise or counter clock wise motor? Any info would help me out.
Thanks.

I might tackle this problem a few ways. This one is the most expensive (but the part is new). :-O

The RX-5080 looks to have the same tape drive. And here is the new motor (scroll down):

There are two choices, so I would call Panasonic Parts and ask about the differences. Maybe even ask about your specific model.

I've dealt with Panasonic Parts before with excellent results (from boomboxes to vacuum cleaners).

Good luck! :-D

The RX-5080 has a 15 volt motor.
I know this because I needed a 15 volt motor for my RX-5050.
I got one from member "Matrixambience" whom gave me a tape motor with the complete cassette deck and motor.
Sorry for the bad news........ :'-(

Sorry for the bad news........ , deck might be the same but the motor on the 5080 is15v but not the 5085 it uses the 12v version so the deck would only be interchangable but would have to find a 12v motor which like i said before studioelectronics.com sell a generic mabuchi motor which should work fine
