Hi BoomShaka Laka-That is a killer 8989!!
Where did you find such a rare model??
I didn't even know they made a HB model and at 28 watts that's just insane.
I'll bet it rocks-dou you want to sell it??

Hi GB! I bought it several years ago from an S2G member, but I don't seem to have the communication anymore, so I'm not sure who it was. (Please don't hate me if whoever it was is reading this!) I know I bought it for the color, but, since it's a Euro model, I don't know if it's rare or not. Probably is, based on what I've seen on eBay. My understanding is that those wattage ratings on the backs of boxes show power consumption rather than output, so there's probaby no difference in sound between the HB version and other versions. (Someday I'll have to drag out my other 8989's - along with an 8787, which looks almost the same - and listen side-by-side.) I'm not doing any selling right now, but, when I do, you'll be on my list! :-D

Spot on.

The watts on the back of a boombox have got nothing to do with power output sound-wise.

I believe the Sharp 8989 models are something like 4 watts per channel RMS - a pretty reasonable figure.

Hi BoomShaka Laka-Yes I know about that the watts are draw watts but indeed have a correlation as to how powerful a boombox is.
All the 8989's over here are 15 watts and BTW-this seems low because I've heard others that draw 25 that aren't as loud.
Yes that's where it can be deceiving.
I think the GF series is like and old Chevrolet V-8 engine very powerful abd underrated output!!
I just surpise myself on how loud and sensitive these are.
I mean on 3-4 on the volume your really getting loud and when your near 5 or anything above that-it's a dang party!!
I know-I used mine outside in the 80's very, very frequently.
My favorite because of the memories associated with this particular model.
I like the II because you have the extra Phono input on top back also besides having line in & outs.
I saw one on E-bay Great Britain but just don't want tp pay 120.00 to ship it!!
I know Royal Mail-Royal Royal Rip off!
Thanks and maybe someone can give up a real comparo ont he 8989 and the MB model-I want to know!
Have a super week-GB. :-)

I'm listening to my Realistic SCR-8 just arrived.Though it certainly has decent bass if you dial it up,It's more of a box for rock but not as adaptable for heavy beats, dance music,etc..There is a significant difference in this way between it and it's brother, the G.E. Blockbuster. The Blockbuster can become quite punchy if you want that. It's sound is more configurable. The great thing about the SCR-8 is the full length V.U. lights. They're very entertaining to watch :w00t: !

Giving the GF9494 a run with some tracks by Dam Funk, one of the most exciting artists to emerge in new music for a long time - if you like 80's funk / electro soul then this guy from Cali will blow up for you the way he has for me....

Oh and the box sounds beautiful btw.. :-)

I love my b-box family and this is the only box that is 100% replaceable!!! I could of brought many other boomers but, they are for local B-ques and D-way sitting.

I love seeing what everyone is up to and still love having a great time with the family.... me and the kids swam in our heated pool until 10 pm!!!!!

Was going to do a little gardening today, with my trusty Pulser (pulse, baby, pulse!) by my side, but got rained out. I decided to sit on my porch and listen to the Pulser anyway. I love this box (solid feel, full sound, classic design) even though it's a store brand (Canadian Tire), was made in Taiwan, and, from what I remember, there are a gazillion AKA's.

Got stuck on talk radio this morning. With GM officially going into bankruptcy, you can imagine the fear and trembling here in Michigan. Governor Granholm - always a calm, articulate voice in a storm - tried to assure folks that a leaner GM would eventually mean a return of jobs... but in the meantime, yikes! They're talking 20% unemployment in this state before long. :-O

Think I'll change to classic rock this afternoon. Nothing beats a little Journey ("born and raised in south Detroit") to soothe a troubled (and unemployed) soul. Of course, a big, bright Stanley Cup helps, too. Go Wings! :-D
