Had this model for years and decided to give it a clean up. I was shocked at the amount of (what seems) to be either sawdust or tobacco inside! I think the GF 9090 is c 1978.
I had to replace the capstan wheel as it had rotted. It was a piece of rubber that was below the top half that drove the idler wheel. It took a while to replace as I had to dismantle the capstan from the flywheel at the back.
I'd found the front cover had been off before and some of the screws had been forced and cause the plastic holders to break off. These were glued on with a bit of patience.
Cleaning near the selectors below was required as it had gone a little rusty under the protective felt
A large amount of dust and dirt as you can see
The belt on the left was stuck and didn't move, so I took it off and put it back, it started moving again!
Radio internals seem in good order
This is the capstan that had a section underneath with the rubber roller that had rotted. (See arrow) I used a short section of electrical wire covering for this.
This took quite a while, dismantling the capstan flywheel from the main capstan pole and cleaning the black goo left behind by the rotted roller that was on it.
Controls needed cleaning too
