GREETINGS

I've got a Sharp GF570 box that I just scored from a local thrift shop. It's got 2 different line inputs; one is a stereo RCA connection and one is 1/8 inch "external mic". The operation settings are tape, radio/line in stereo and radio/line in mono. I've tried to run signal through these inputs, but I never hear it coming through, only the radio. I haven't been able to find any other switches or knobs that change input signal. There is a strange 3 position switch on the back that says "beat cancel", with A, B and C as options. This does nothing as far as I can tell.

Anyone else have one of these things and can help?

Thanks...

Hi and welcome to the board.

The beat cancel switch function is unrelated to the recording function.

On some boomboxes, you may need to be recording to be able to hear the line in, I'm unfamiliar with that exact boombox, but does it have a recording volume adjustment?

Stick a blank tape in and press record, while using the line in's. see what happens.

Ok, so I tried recording from the line in last night but with no luck. Since the radio function is combined with the line in option, you cannot use the tape functions while line in is coming through. When the tape function is on, you cannot hear line in, even when the deck is in record mode. For some stupid reason they set it up so that you can only use the tape or the radio but not both at the same time. There isn't a separate recording level control either.

I'm going to try screwing with it again tomorrow and see what happens. I really feel like maybe I'm missing something, but the functions are so basic to begin with.

try this

plug in aux source
select radio/line in mode (stereo)
insert blank tape with recording tabs intact
hit record / record and play depending on how the unit operates
hit play on the aux source

most of my boxes with a radio/line shared input have the radio cut when an input is connected, but there is a couple that need the tape record engaged to play line in through

I figured it out.

There is an option on this thing for continuous playback between both decks 1 and 2. When this button is enabled, a tape in deck 1 can play until it stops, then it automatically starts playing deck 2.

When this button is pressed, for some odd reason the record deck will not record. Weather it is in line in mode or from tape to tape.

I just disabled it and everything works fine (except the 1/8" "external mic" input, but I got the stereo ins working so I don't really care).

Thanks for the replies...
