Hoping some one here can help me out on this one.

I bought one of these today, Philips Type D 8644 00, but the cassettedeck seems to be not working.
The buttons were all pushed in. With a little work I finally managed to get them out, but there was no resistance so they "fell" right back in.

Took the thing apart, fidled a little on the back of the push-back-thingies of the buttons, after removing all the pushbuttons themselves, and finally got it working after a while. The buttons all spring back after pushing them, but none of them actually does anything (apart from the eject-button).

Can anyone help me out or tell me what's wrong / broken, busted?

Thanks a bunch,
Chris from Holland.

Fixed, and playing like a charm now! :D

Took the thing apart, fidled a lil with a screwdriver and things started popping back into place. Now I just need to find the old cassettes from when I was a kid again!

Hi,

I have the same soundmachine Philips D8644, with the same problem.

I have cleaned all buttons, and all mecanism.

I had new problem : A "sound clic" into mecanism

I had add lubricant, but now I have the belt not driven !

After, I have cleaned the big belt, and add talcum powder.

My question is : Where Can I clean ? where can I lubricate ?

I have 2 belts : 1 for all system, 1 for the meter

Thank's a lot for your anwser !

NB : Sorry for my language, I'm French...

Clean off all old grease and add new where applicable. Clean all switches and pots and record bar. Clean and check tires on deck and pinch roller and make sure they are not dried or cracked. Clean tape heads. Demagnatized heads for quality sound. Change belts. Clean any dust or dirt inside box and blow dust off components.

Thank you very much for your answer.

I have cleaned all, but I don't know where must I add a new grease ? When I have cleaned all, the mecanism have blocked... I have add grease, that's better beause less blocked... But it's not perfect because I suppose I don't located to add grease (the good localisation into mecanism).

Do you have idea for the sound machine k7 system ?

Buttons cleaned, and are not much dearty...
Mecanism is cleanded...
Accessories not cracked...
But I have the same problem !!!

I who believed that Philips D8644 was simple to fix , I was wrong ...

Honestly if you never restored a deck and I can tell by you not knowing the actual parts then your better off finding someone close by to do it. Decks are fairly easy but knowing how they work will help you find issues most of the time

I understand...

The solution is to understand the mechanism with the help of someone who knows .

Thank you for your answer.
